Highlights
- Organizing your projects
- Planning your day
- Interface
Projects help you organize your tasks into separate lists. Your Todoist comes with a list of standard projects to get you started, but you can create, delete, re-name, re-arrange, and color-code your projects any way you like.
Most users find it helpful to separate their tasks into broad projects like Work and Personal. Then they create new Todoist projects for bigger, long-term things they’re working on. For example:
- If you’re a teacher, you could create a project for planning each class you teach.
- If you’re a software developer on an agile development team, you could create a new project to keep track of each sprint you work on.
- If you work in marketing, you could create a project for each new campaign you plan to launch.
- If you’re a freelancer, you could create a project for each of your clients. (You can even share those projects with your clients.)
Not sure where to organize a new task? Add it to your Inbox first and decide later. Your Inbox acts as a default list for tasks that don’t have a project yet, or tasks that aren’t attached to any particular project. When you’re ready, just drag and drop these tasks into the right project in your list.
Your Today and Upcoming views let you see all of your tasks across all of your projects that are due today, this week, or any week in the future. This is where you’ll spend most of your time in Todoist.
Your Upcoming view makes it easy to plan your week ahead of time. Many people block off half an hour on Sunday or Monday morning to get a big-picture overview of the week to come and decide what they need to accomplish each day.
Today makes it easy to stay focused on the right things. Throughout the day, check this view to see which tasks you have on your plate and select one to work on. You can even print your daily to-do list and keep it on your desk for easy reference.
While Today gives you a glance at the day ahead, Upcoming is a bird‘s eye view of what‘s coming next. You‘ll be able to easily preview tasks due any time in the future and jump to any date in seconds. Many people block off half an hour on Sunday or Monday morning to look at Upcoming and get a big-picture overview of the week — or even month — and decide what they need to accomplish each day.
Todoist’s web and desktop interfaces have a 2-column layout. The right column has all tasks organized in nested lists with color codes and information such as what people are assigned to each task and which project the task is part of. The left column offers ways of accessing various groups of tasks – tasks that have to be completed within a certain timeframe, tasks that are a part of a certain project or have certain labels attached to them, etc. The left column also contains filters that allow even more advanced ways of finding a group of tasks.
The mobile interface follows a similar design philosophy, but gives each column a separate view.

If you have a yearly subscription, you are eligible for a refund within 30 days of purchase or renewal.
